Why do small, isolated areas of ABW damage show up in September?
Annual bluegrass weevil pressure remains low, but it is not uncommon to see some activity in September and early October.
June and July have been difficult months for cool-season grasses. One positive note is that ABW pressure appears to be low.
This year, the Memorial Day holiday correlated with the first round of annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) damage in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
We started to pick up on early instar larvae in our trial work outside of Philadelphia in late April and early May and the larval densities and range...
For golf courses in the Mid-Atlantic region, there have been two dominating weather themes for April — and these are not the eclipse and earthquake.

I have seen a few pockets of ABW damage over the past two to three weeks, but late summer and early autumn ABW activity can be impacted by agronomic inputs.
Green keeping can be a very humbling task, and ABW activity continues to be difficult to predict.
The golf course is subject to the effects of weather 365 days per year, and this year's wacky weather has surely impacted the activity of insects and disease pests.
After weeks of scouting for ABW adults and larvae — and seeing mostly adults in sporadic densities — we have started to consistently pick up on mid-range...
In my scouting and trial work, ABW densities have picked up, but the populations are sporadic.

I continue to scout at many golf courses throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and only find select pockets of ABW damage and activity. Stay diligent...
July of 2022 will go down in the records as being very warm. Depending on your exact location there were more than 15 or 16 days where the low temperatures...
Currently, I am finding very low levels of adults, callow adults and all different stages of larvae in untreated turf in my trial areas.
For most of you, the first round of ABW damage should be past the peak. It is important to continue to scout your golf course for larvae if you have made application(s).
